Therefore, while the RECTEQ RT-700 technically has the higher temperature setting, the grilling/searing performance of these two pellet grills will be very similar. However, the Pit Boss Pro 1600 Elite benefits from direct-flame access for temperatures of 650 degrees plus at the centre of the cooking grate, a feature not found on the RECTEQ. The Pit Boss Pro 1600 Elite can be set to a maximum of 500 degrees, whereas on RIOT mode, the RECTEQ RT-700 can potentially go up to 700 degrees. However, there is a difference in temperature range. Therefore, both of these pellets can maintain their temperature to within 5 degrees of the set temperature. When it comes to control panel technology and temperature control, both the Pit Boss Pro 1600 Elite and RECTEQ RT-700 are on an equal footing, they both offer PID temperature control. The pellet grill which has been most successful for RECTEQ to this point is the RT-700, its essentially the pellet grill which has built the brand.Īs Pit Boss now has its first stainless steel pellet grill in the form of the Pro 1600 Elite, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to compare the two brands head-on at the same price point. The RECTEQ Bullseye features a stainless steel cooking chamber, for this price point, a stainless steel cooking chamber is excellent and easily secures a win for RECTEQ. Not only for the reasons stated above of the PID control panel, larger main cooking grate and significantly larger pellet hopper. Well, I think the answer is the RECTEQ Bullseye, plain and simple. Therefore, which pellet grill/smoker do I think offers the better value? Pricing and Valueīesides sales prices, both the Pit Boss 440FB1 and the RECTEQ Bullseye both hold pretty steady at $399. Therefore, you would be much more comfortable walking away knowing the hopper is going to last a significant amount of time. The RECTEQ Bullseye, by comparison, is offering a much more practical 15lb pellet hopper. The hopper capacity on the Pit Boss 440FB1 is tiny at just 5lbs, I know of several portable pellet grills which offer a larger pellet hopper. However, there are no additional smoking racks on the RECTEQ, its just the main grate. Therefore, the RECTEQ Bullseye actually has the larger main grate at 380 sq.in. The Pit Boss 440FB1 does offer a larger overall cooking area at 482 sq.in, however, that’s including an upper smoking rack. Therefore, I would actually predict the grilling/searing performance of these two pellet grills is very similar. Therefore, the Pit Boss should reliably be able to exceed 500 degrees at the centre of the cooking grate. What the Pit Boss 440FB1 does have, which the RECTEQ Bullseye does not, is direct-flame access. However, that 749 degrees will not be possible in all weather conditions. In terms of temperature setting, while the Pit Boss 440FB1 is limited to 500 degrees, the RECTEQ Bullseye can go all the way up to 749 degrees. Hence, the RECTEQ can control its temperature to within 5 degrees of the set temperature, whereas the Pit Boss will only be able to manage around 25 degrees from the set temperature. The first significant difference to note between these two pellet grills is that the Pit Boss uses a previous-generation time-based control panel, whereas the RECTEQ is using a PID control panel. Temperature Control & Cooking Performance So let’s look at their features/capabilities to try and work out which unit is offering the better deal. Importantly, both of these pellet grills come in at a similar price point of under $400. Pit Boss 440FB1 vs RECTEQ Bullseye RT-B380īelow we have two of the smallest pellet grills/smokers available from each brand which would be suitable for a couple or small family.Īs you can see from the images below, while the Pit Boss has a traditional pellet grill appearance, the RECTEQ looks more like a kettle BBQ than a traditional pellet grill. Importantly, I’ve chosen products from each brand at a similar price point so you can see what you’re getting for the money, a larger cooking area or better materials. Then I’ve done a comparison of two mid-sized products suitable for a larger family or if you cook for a large group of friends at the weekend. I’ve provided two comparisons below, two small pellet grills/smokers from each brand suitable for a couple/small family.
